Living With Scoliosis

Living With Scoliosis

What Is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is the spine condition where instead of the spine going straight down the back, the spine curves in an angle more than 10 degrees to the sides. (Webmd, 2018). The curves of Scoliosis usually begin to show between 10-13 years old when children start growing more rapidly, but scoliosis can also begin in adults as well in the form of degenerative scoliosis (Webmd, 2018).

What is it like living with scoliosis?

Living with scoliosis is challenging and this is something that I can attest to. I discovered that I had scoliosis since I was 10 years old. My spine curved as I played the Saxophone in the school band and in order to compensate for the weight of the instrument, I often played it in an awkward sitting posture. As a sufferer of scoliosis back pains and neck pains are common. Some daily activities can be hindered by the back pains caused by scoliosis. Whenever I carry my backpack with just a laptop in it on the train ride home, I get a terrible backache by the time I get back home. Back aches cause by scoliosis also make normal activities like jogging painful for me.

Thankfully, there are non-invasive treatment methods for scoliosis like the ones done at All Well Scoliosis Centre and if you are interested to find out more drop us an email at admin@allwellscoliosis.com
